The Prince of Poets: A Celebration of Arabic Language and Creative Expression

Mahbouba Hassan, Head of MOE at The Aquila School shares details of the Prince of Poets, an initiative championing the Arabic language and Multilingualism at her school.

At The Aquila School, the love for the Arabic language goes far beyond the classroom. One of the most memorable initiatives we started last year and proudly continued this year is the "Prince of Poets" competition—an event that brought poetry to life, igniting a passion for the Arabic language, culture, and creativity in the hearts of our students.

The idea was inspired by the renowned televised competition of the same name, and we wanted to give our young learners the chance to experience the beauty and power of Arabic poetry. What started as a small idea quickly evolved into a school-wide celebration, drawing participation from all age groups.

To elevate the experience, we were honoured to host three prominent poets—Musab Biroutieh, Yazan Issa, and Jaafar Hamdy—as our distinguished judges. Their presence and feedback added authenticity and excitement to the event, turning it into a true celebration of linguistic talent.

The competition not only enhanced students’ language skills and confidence but also strengthened their emotional connection with Arabic as a living, expressive language.

We are thrilled to share that next year, we are opening this initiative to all ISP ME schools! The vision is to make Prince of Poets a regional celebration of Arabic poetry, allowing students from across our schools to compete, perform, and connect through the art of spoken word.

العنوان: "أمير الشعراء: احتفاء بلغة الضاد والتعبير الإبداعي"

في مدرسة أكويلا، يتجاوز حبنا للغة العربية حدود الصفوف الدراسية. ومن بين أبرز المبادرات التي أطلقناها العام الماضي ونفتخر باستمرارها للعام الثاني على التوالي كانت مسابقة "أمير الشعراء" – حدث شعري أحيا جمال الكلمة، وأشعل في قلوب طلابنا شغفًا باللغة والثقافة والإبداع.

استُلهمت فكرة المسابقة من البرنامج الشعري الشهير الذي يحمل نفس الاسم، وراودنا الحلم بأن نتيح لطلابنا فرصة خوض تجربة شعرية حقيقية، يعيشون من خلالها جمال اللغة العربية وقوة التعبير بها. وما بدأ كفكرة بسيطة تحوّل إلى احتفال مدرسي واسع شارك فيه طلاب من مختلف المراحل العمرية.

وقد كان لنا شرف استضافة ثلاثة من كبار الشعراء: مصعب بيروتية، ويزن عيسى، وجعفر حمدي، الذين أضفوا بحضورهم وملاحظاتهم الاحترافية روحًا من الأصالة والحماسة للمسابقة، وجعلوها حدثًا استثنائيًا بكل المقاييس.

ساهمت المسابقة في تطوير مهارات الطلاب اللغوية، وزادت من ثقتهم بأنفسهم، كما عمّقت ارتباطهم باللغة العربية كلغة حية نابضة بالإحساس.

ونحن اليوم في غاية السعادة لنعلن أن المبادرة ستُفتح لجميع مدارس ISP في الشرق الأوسط العام القادم، لنحول "أمير الشعراء" إلى احتفال إقليمي بالشعر العربي، يجمع طلابنا من مختلف المدارس في منافسة ملهمة تعزز التواصل والاعتزاز بالهوية.

ندعو جميع مدارس الشراكة الدولية - iSP للمشاركة في هذه التجربة الفريدة. فلنحتفِ معًا بتراثنا المشترك، ولنرعَ الأصوات الناشئة، ونُطلق جيلًا جديدًا من الشعراء.
